2. Take a Day Trip to Aguadilla’s Crash Boat Beach

While Rincon, Puerto Rico offers plenty to see and do, some of the nearby towns and beaches are equally as fun and beautiful, so it’s worth planning a day trip from Rincon.

In particular, Crash Boat Beach in Aguadilla is often rated the best beach on the west coast of Puerto Rico, and it’s easy to see why. The radiant shoreline is dotted with food kiosks, beach amenities, and people basking in the lively atmosphere. The beach offers a blend of relaxation and excitement – some people will be chilling and sunbathing, while the adrenaline seekers can be found jumping off the long pier!

Near to Aguadilla’s Crash Boat Beach (a 14 minute drive) is the beautiful Playa Pena Blanca, a must-visit spot during your trip to Rincon. The aesthetics and stunning natural beauty of this beach reminded us of the beaches you find in Europe. The white sand is framed by towering cliffs that provide a dramatic backdrop to its crystal-clear waters and a stark contrast to the usual palm tree Caribbean beaches.

This spot is secluded and a favourite among locals and the few tourists who discover its existence, making it the perfect escape from the crowds of the nearby Crash Boat Beach in Aguadilla.

This historic lighthouse, perched on a hill, offers sweeping views of the Caribbean Sea, making it an idyllic location to watch the breathtaking Puerto Rican sunsets.

Faro Punta Higueras is not only a visual treat but also a place steeped in history. Its role as a navigation guide for sailors since the late 19th century adds a historical charm to the panoramic oceanic view it offers.

Gozalandia Falls in Puerto Rico is undoubtedly another top thing to do in Rincon. Hidden deep within the lush forests of San Sebastian, a short drive from Rincon, Gozalandia is a magical retreat from the sun-soaked beaches.

You will find two separate waterfalls at Gozalandia, each cascading into clear pools, creating natural swimming spots where you can cool off. You can also jump off the waterfalls into the pools below!

Entrance to the falls is $10, which you pay as you enter the car park. Minimal hiking is required since the two waterfalls are not far from the car parking area. There’s also a bar and restaurant at the car park, as well as a large grassy area with a Gozalandia sign – a perfect photo opportunity!

Other noteworthy restaurants in Rincon include Estela, known for its fresh, farm-to-table creative dishes; and El Bohio, offering a mix of Puerto Rican and international cuisine and good music.

For breakfast, The English Rose is one of the best restaurants in Rincon, and is incredibly beautiful. We also loved Jakes Java, which is a bit more casual compared to The English Rose as it’s a beach hut serving up great coffees, smoothies and bowls – we recommend their Chai Latte and Acai bowl!

The charm of Rincon, Puerto Rico extends beyond its natural beauty and food spots. The town is home to a vibrant arts scene, local markets, and cultural events.

Visit local art galleries like The Uncharted Studio, engage with the community at the Rincon Art Walk, and immerse yourself in cultural experiences like the Rincon Film Festival.

Do I Need a Car Rental in Rincon, Puerto Rico?

When visiting Rincon, you might wonder if a car rental is necessary. While it’s possible to get by without a car if you plan to spend most of your time in the town centre or by one of the beaches, renting a car can significantly enhance your experience. We have written a comprehensive guide on whether you should rent a car in Puerto Rico here.

Much of Rincon’s charm lies in its off-the-beaten-path attractions. While Rincon’s town centre is walkable, many attractions, beaches, and restaurants are scattered across the area. Public transport exists, but it’s not always reliable, and taxis, while available, can become costly over time.

Renting a car provides the convenience of exploring at your own pace. You have the freedom to discover off-the-beaten-path locations and the flexibility to create your own itinerary.

🚗 Personally, we always use Discover Cars to book our car rental as it allows us to easily compare costs, reviews and explore any additional fees.

Best Time to Visit Rincon

Rincon, Puerto Rico, is an amazing place to visit all year round, but understanding the seasons can help you plan the perfect holiday.

  • Winter (December to April): This is the peak surf season in Rincon, when surfers flock to catch the best waves. We visited Rincon in February and we enjoyed the high-energy atmosphere of this bustling surf town at this time of year. The weather is also cooler and pleasant, making it an ideal time to be outdoors. However, bear in mind that this is also the peak tourist season, so accommodation prices might be higher and popular spots can be crowded.
  • Spring (April to June): As the surf season winds down, the crowds begin to thin, making spring a great time to visit if you’re looking for a quieter holiday. The weather is still lovely, and you may find better deals on accommodation.
gozalandia waterfall best things to do in rincon
palm trees at sandy beach best things to do in rincon
  • Summer (June to September): If you love basking in tropical heat, summer in Rincon is for you. Whilst the temperatures rise, the surf calms down, transforming the beaches into calm swimming and snorkelling spots. Be mindful of hurricane season, which can affect the region during late summer.
  • Autumn (September to November): This is the off-season in Rincon, with fewer tourists and the potential for some great accommodation deals. Whilst the weather can be unpredictable due to the tail end of the hurricane season, it can still be a good time to visit if you’re looking for a peaceful retreat.

So, the best time to visit Rincon depends on your preferences for surf conditions, weather, crowd levels, and budget considerations.
