How To Get to Playa Escondida, Puerto Rico
Hidden behind the lush curtain of a mangrove forest, Playa Escondida offers a unique adventure if you’re a beach enthusiast. To reach this secluded paradise, you’ll need to embark on a 20-to-25-minute hike from Seven Seas Beach. The easy and well-paved trail winds through the mesmerising mangrove forest, immersing you in nature before you even reach the beach itself.
If you’re driving, park your car in the Seven Seas Beach car park. It costs £5 per vehicle. Then, head to the trailhead.
You’ll find the start of the trail at the end of the path adjacent to Seven Seas Beach. Once on the trail, it’s easy to follow.
You won’t see any other turnings until you have the choice of turning right to go to Playa Colora or continuing straight towards Playa Escondida.
The hike is relatively flat, you might have to navigate some boggy areas if it’s rained and duck under some branches, but it’s not overly strenuous.

Top Tips for Your Visit to Playa Escondida
1. Respect the Waters
While the Caribbean Sea may appear calm, the strong currents and rip tides in the area can be extremely dangerous. Even if you decide to take a dip, stay within the shallow waters and avoid venturing further out. If you aren’t a confident swimmer, it’s recommended to enjoy the beach with a stroll instead of a swim.
2. Mindful Sunbathing
There are no facilities available at Playa Escondida, so come prepared for a day at the beach. Bring along sunscreen, towels, beach chairs, and any other beach essentials. Depending on the time of day, shade can be hard to come by, so consider an umbrella and hat too.
3. Family-Friendly Reminder
If you’re visiting with children, be aware that Playa Escondida and nearby Playa Colora may have nudists, although nudist beaches are illegal in Puerto Rico.
4. Bring Bug Spray
Bring along some insect repellent for the hike and apply it generously before you begin along the trail. We didn’t suffer, but some people report getting a lot of mosquito bites on the hike to Playa Escondida.
Amenities and Responsible Tourism
Playa Escondida has no facilities – it’s a remote and untouched beach, so be prepared to bring everything you need for a comfortable beach day.
Also, don’t leave anything behind. There’s no one to clean up after you here, so to protect the beauty of this beach and its waters, take your rubbish home!
You can utilise the amenities at Seven Seas Beach when you return, but you will have to pay. It’s only around £1 to use the bathroom and showers.
However, Seven Seas Beach operates on varying schedules throughout the year, so plan your visit accordingly. If you plan on using the amenities, check they’re open before starting your hike.
