5 Things to Consider for a Miami Couples Vacation

Miami has a lot to offer when it comes to gorgeous beaches, breathtaking architecture, and incredible food options to historic mansions, theme parks, and national parks.

1. Weather

One of the best things about Miami is its year-round warm weather, making a Miami vacation for couples worth it at any time of the year. Having said that, the weather in Miami can be very hot and humid in the summer months, which may not be comfortable for everyone.

2. Beaches

The city is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the USA, including South Beach, which is known for its white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. There are a lot of fun things to do as a couple in Miami – you could even try your hand at water sports like surfing and parasailing on the beaches of Miami.

3. Culture

In addition to its stunning beaches, Miami is also known for its unique culture and diverse population. The city is home to a thriving food scene serving every culture and dish possible. Miami really is one of the most vibrant places in the world.

4. Tourism

However, Miami may not be the best vacation destination for everyone. The city can be quite crowded and touristy, especially during peak seasons, and the cost of accommodation and activities can be expensive.

5. Personal Preference & Budget

It’s important to consider your personal preferences and budget when deciding whether Miami is a good vacation destination for you and your partner. If you enjoy warm weather, beach activities, and a lively atmosphere, then Miami may be a good choice. However, if you prefer a more laid-back or budget-friendly vacation, you may want to consider alternative destinations.

The 4 Best Places to Stay in Miami For Couples

If you do decide on a Miami vacation, there are many great places to stay in Miami for couples, depending on your preferences and budget. Many hotels and resorts in the city also cater to couples in particular by offering amenities such as spas and romantic dinners – lush!

Some popular places to stay in Miami for couples include:

1. South Beach

South Beach, also known as SoBe, is a vibrant neighbourhood in the city of Miami Beach, Florida. It is located on a barrier island between Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean and is known for its Art Deco architecture, lively atmosphere, white sand beaches, and great nightlife scene.

There are many hotels and resorts located in South Beach that cater to couples, including Delano South Beach and Nautilis By Arlo (this is where we stayed and loved it!). These hotels along with others of their kind are some of the best places to stay in Miami.

If you’re looking for where to stay in Miami for the first time and want a lively atmosphere with a variety of clubs, restaurants, theatres, bars, shops and other entertainment options, South Beach could be the perfect spot for you.

South Beach itself is wide and sandy, with warm, clear waters that are perfect for swimming and other water activities. There are several public beach access points, as well as a number of beachfront parks and recreational facilities such as a gym on the beach, beachball courts, pop-up drink stands, etc and you will often find joggers, cyclists and skaters and rollerbladers making their way along the South Beach promenade.

🏡 Find the best places to stay in South Beach:

2. Brickell

Brickell is a bustling neighbourhood located in the heart of Miami’s financial district. It is known for its upscale hotels, restaurants, and shopping, as well as its convenient location close to many of the city’s attractions. There are also many things to do in Brickell, Miami.

Brickell is a good place to stay in Miami for couples who want to be near the action and enjoy the city’s nightlife as well as be able to easily catch the bus to South Beach. For this reason, Brickell is one of the best places to stay in Miami without a car.

Brickell is easily accessible by car, public transportation, and bike, and there are many restaurants, bars, and clubs within walking distance. There are also several parks in the area where couples can relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Some popular hotels and resorts in Brickell for couples include the Mandarin Oriental Miami, the JW Marriott Miami, and the InterContinental Miami.

However, it is important to note that Brickell can be a busy neighbourhood, so if you are looking for a more relaxed atmosphere, you may want to consider staying in a different part of the city.

3. Coral Gables

Coral Gables is a residential neighbourhood located southwest of downtown Miami. It is known for its tree-lined streets, upscale shopping, and elegant mansions.

Coral Gables is a good place to stay in Miami for couples who want a more upscale and refined atmosphere. The neighbourhood is quieter and more laid-back than some of the more touristy areas of the city, such as South Beach. It is also home to many excellent restaurants and shops, as well as several parks and green spaces.

Couples can stay at the historic Biltmore Hotel or the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables, both of which offer luxurious amenities and are located in convenient locations.

However, Coral Gables is not as conveniently located to the beach as some of the more coastal neighbourhoods, so if you are planning to spend a lot of time at the beach, you may want to consider a neighbourhood in this area.

🏡 Find the best places to stay in Coral Gables:

4. Key Biscayne

Key Biscayne is a small island located just off the coast of Miami, known for its beautiful beaches and tranquil atmosphere. Key Biscayne is a good place to stay in Miami for couples who want a more relaxed and laid-back vacation.

The island is home to several luxury resorts and hotels that are located in convenient locations, for example, Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne or the Key Biscayne Beach Club, both of which offer beautiful views of the ocean and are located within walking distance of the beach.

Key Biscayne is also home to several parks, as well as several excellent restaurants and shops.

However, it is important to note that Key Biscayne is located a short drive from the city, so if you are planning to spend a lot of time exploring the city attractions and nightlife of Miami, you may want to consider staying closer to the city.

And amazingly, many of these small islands have bars on them making them great places to visit in Miami for half a day or a full day. These small islands offer a unique and enjoyable way to enjoy the city’s waterways and soak in some impressive views.

5. Visit the Florida Keys

The Florida Keys archipelago is a chain of islands located about an hour’s drive south of Miami. The drive down the Florida Keys, as well as all of the incredible stops along the way, make for an unforgettable thing to do as a couple in Miami.

Visiting the Florida Keys can be a great way to experience the natural beauty of South Florida and escape the hustle and bustle of the city. However, keep in mind that the Keys are located a bit of a distance from Miami, so you’ll need to plan your transportation.

SEVEN MILE BRIDGE on Florida Keys Miami Florida

We recommend hiring a car and driving to the Florida Keys from Miami via the Overseas Highway (Highway 1), which takes you through a number of small towns and villages along the way.

If you don’t fancy the Miami to Florida Keys drive, you can fly into Key West International Airport. However, be mindful that you will miss the breathtaking, scenic views that you’d have driving the distance.

Whether visiting the Florida Keys is a good thing to do in Miami as a couple will depend on your personal interests and how much time you have available. Personally, we thought it was a once-in-a-lifetime, epic adventure and the perfect thing to do while on our couple’s trip to Miami.

There are a number of things to do in the Florida Keys. From photo opportunities along the Highway, pelican bars, snorkelling and diving the famous coral reefs, fishing, visiting beaches, strolling the many parks and nature preserves, exploring quaint towns, and trying out the many ice cream shops, bars and restaurants.

6. Be Awe-struck in Wynwood

In addition to its beaches and culinary scene, Miami is also home to a vibrant art scene. If you and your partner are looking for something different, Wynwood is one of the top things to do in Miami for adults.

Wynwood Arts District is home to over 70 galleries, museums, and art studios, as well as street art murals by world-renowned talented street artists. You can spend half a day or a full day exploring the incredible street art and grabbing lunch at one of the many restaurants in the area.

Also check out the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens: This historic mansion is set on a beautiful 10-acre estate and features beautiful gardens, art exhibits, and a variety of cultural events. The Vizcaya is one of the best museums in Miami.

Outdoor Things To Do in Miami (For Couples)

There are also plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventure in Miami, such as kayaking through the mangroves in the Everglades, hiking in the National Parks or snorkelling in the Keys.

There are several nature reserves and parks in the Miami area, including Everglades National Park (there are flamingos here!) and Biscayne National Park. These areas are great for hiking and exploring the natural beauty of South Florida.

Talking of hiking, the Oleta River State Park located just north of Miami is a great place to hike. Over 1,000 acres, you’ll find mangrove forests, sandy beaches, and freshwater lagoons.

You can also take a stroll through the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Coral Gables which is a beautiful 83-acre garden that is home to a wide variety of plants and flowers, as well as a butterfly garden and a rainforest.

It goes without saying that walking around the city, cycling along the South Beach promenade, playing volleyball on the beach, or picking a watersport to enjoy, there are some great outdoor things to do in Miami.

While there are many popular attractions in Miami that are centrally located, we recommend hiring a car for a few days during your trip. And don’t be afraid to venture off the beaten path and discover some of the city’s lesser-known gems.

How to Get Around Miami: 10 Transportation Options

If you’re thinking a couples trip to Miami sounds great so far, then rest assured as one of the best things about Miami is how easy it is to get around. There are a variety of transportation options available, including buses, trains, and rental cars.

Ultimately, the best form of transportation in Miami will depend on your specific needs and preferences. If you’re planning to stay in a central location and do most of your sightseeing on foot, walking or biking may be the best option. If you’re planning to travel longer distances or visit multiple neighbourhoods, public transportation or a rental car may be more practical.

Here’s a breakdown of the transportation options in Miami:

1. Public Transportation in Miami

Public transportation in Miami is a popular, convenient and affordable way to explore the city, and also a great way to get around Miami without a car.

Metrorail and Metromover

Miami’s public transportation system includes the Metrorail, which is a 25-mile elevated train that runs through the city, and the Metromover; a free, elevated train that runs through the downtown area.

Buses

There are also a number of bus routes that cover the city and surrounding areas. The bus system covers most parts of the city and offers convenient access to many points of interest. However, you may need to transfer to another bus or use another form of transportation to reach your destination.

Use Google Maps as this will plan your route for you and let you know the bus stop to be at and the bus to catch.

The fare for a single ride on the bus is $2.25, and tickets and passes can be purchased at any Metrobus terminal or at many retail locations throughout the city.

2. Taxi/Uber/Lyft

Taxis are widely available in Miami and can be hailed on the street or at designated taxi stands. You can also catch an Uber and Lyft really easily, no matter your location, through the App.

3. Rental Car

Renting a car in Miami is a great option if you want to explore the city and surrounding areas at your own pace. There are several rental car agencies in Miami, located throughout the city and at the airport. It’s best to book this in advance so you can compare cost quotes and negotiate a better deal if you’re lucky.

4. Cycling

Miami is a relatively flat city, and cycling is a popular mode of transportation. There are several bike rental companies and several designated bike lanes throughout the city.

However, if you just need a bike for a few hours or the day, you’ll find bikes dotted around the city that you can hire, such as Citibike and Limebike.

Hiring a bike and cycling seems to be one of the best ways to get around Miami South Beach in particular.

5. Walking

Many areas of Miami are walkable as the city is very flat. Also, walking is FREE transportation in Miami!

However, it’s important to be aware of your surroundings, as some areas may not be as safe as others.

6. Boat

There are several boat options available in Miami as a form of transportation, including:

7. Water taxis

Water taxis in Miami are a convenient way to get around by boat. They operate on a set route and make stops at various points of interest, including hotels, restaurants, and attractions. Miami water taxis are typically more expensive than other forms of transportation, but they provide a unique way to get around the city.

8. Ferry service

The Miami-Dade Transit agency operates a ferry service that connects the mainland with several islands in the area, including Miami Beach and Key Biscayne. The ferry service is convenient and it provides beautiful views of the city.

You can find out more about the ferry service by visiting www.miamidade.gov/transit. Here, you can find information about the ferry service’s routes, schedules, fares, and other important details. You can also purchase tickets for the ferry service online or at any Metrobus terminal.

9. Boat rentals

Several companies in Miami offer boat rentals, which allow visitors to explore the city’s waterways on their own. Boat rentals are typically more expensive than other forms of transportation, but they provide a unique and flexible way to get around.

10. Boat tours

Several companies in Miami offer boat tours, which allow visitors to see the city from the water. Boat tours can be a fun and educational way to see the city, and they are available in various lengths and styles, including sightseeing tours, sunset cruises, and dinner cruises.

Getting around Miami by boat is a totally different experience and the views will be unforgettable. However, it is important to research the different options and choose the one that best fits your needs and budget.

Top Tip: No matter which transportation option you choose, it is important to plan your route in advance, familiarise yourself with local traffic laws and safety guidelines, and allow extra time for travel.
