Grenada is in our top three Caribbean islands – we love it here. No matter what type of traveller you are, you’ll find exactly what you’re looking for.

Sensational beaches, incredibly clear waters, tremendous hikes, cascading waterfalls, lush rainforests and endless adventures – everything’s here. You could live in Grenada for years and never run out of things to do, it’s an adventurer’s paradise. On the other hand, if you want to bask in ultimate luxury, chill by the pool and eat some seriously tasty food at Grenada’s best restaurants, this island is perfect for that too.

We’d recommend basing yourself in the southwest of the island. It’s home to some of the best beaches in Grenada and the widest choice of hotels, resorts and restaurants. Also, it’s close to the airport, so there are no long transfers. It’s definitely the best base for exploring this beautiful island.

Barbados is famous for its beaches, and St Lucia is renowned for its incredible landscapes, but we think Grenada has both, and that’s why it’s rightfully on our list of the best Caribbean islands to visit in June. 3. St Kitts and Nevis

St Kitts and Nevis is one of the best Caribbean islands to visit in June because you’ll be in for a unique Caribbean experience. The St Kitts Music Festival, which usually takes place in June, is a major draw, featuring a wide range of music genres and attracting international artists and visitors. This festival alone makes June a great time to visit.

However, music isn’t the only great thing about this country in the summer. You’ll find well-preserved historic forts, sugar plantations, and museums that offer insights into the islands’ past. If you’re looking to explore the outdoors, there’s a variety of things to do, such as snorkelling, diving, zip lining and hiking. And, of course, some seriously incredible landscapes because these islands are home to beaches, rainforests, mountains and two volcanos!

While you’re exploring, you’ll be able to spot monkeys, exotic birds and sea turtles in St Kitts and Nevis. Plus, taking a ride on the St Kitts Scenic Railway is a cool adventure! It’s a 30 mile (48 km) train journey that was originally built and used the early 20th century to transport sugarcane from the island’s plantation to the sugar factory. The guides fill you in on the island’s history while showing you some awesome views.

  5. Head out into St Kitts’ rugged interior in an ATV or dune buggy.
  6. Take a ride on the St Kitts Scenic Railway tour (a 30 mile (48 km) journey that was historically used to transport sugarcane!).

4. Cuba

Cuba is one of the most eye-opening experiences we’ve ever had, and a trip we will remember for the rest of our lives. This huge Latino Caribbean nation truly is stuck in time. Under socialist rule since 1959, when the revolution came to an end, and cut off from trading with the US since 1962, you truly feel like you’ve been transported back in time. The roads are full of 1950s cars, old colonial buildings are crumbling, and the Cuban people still struggle to this day. However, this doesn’t dampen their lively, welcoming and partying spirit.

Most people come to Cuba and head for the touristy areas, like Cayo Coco and Varadero, which is great for an all-inclusive stay. But if you visit Cuba, we recommend travelling around. We spent time in Havana, Vinales, Trinidad, and Varadero, and they’re all incredibly different.

Havana, the capital, is a bustling and fascinating place – imagine the grandeur of Barcelona, but the buildings have been left to crumble. The Vinales Valley is home to some of the most breathtaking landscapes and locally run tobacco farms, and you’ll see as many people on horses as you will in cars. Trinidad is a well-preserved colonial city with tiny cobblestone streets and colourful buildings, and it’s super close to Playa Ancon beach. Varadero is an established tourist area with resorts, 13 miles of white sand beaches and a number of things to do.

Personally, we think it’s one of the best Caribbean islands to visit in June because it’s a captivating country and will leave a lasting impression on you for the rest of your life.

5. Dominica

Every person we know who has been to Dominica says it’s their favourite island. This nature-focussed, eco-friendly island is committed to protecting its beautiful natural habitat. Famous for being underdeveloped and preserving its natural beauty, Dominica is an adventurer’s paradise with hikes, waterfalls, snorkelling, diving, whale and dolphin watching and abundant wildlife, just a few of the main attractions. For us, it’s one of the best Caribbean islands to visit in June for those looking to get off the beaten path, truly disconnect from the modern world and embrace nature.

Home to a boiling lake (located in the World Heritage Morne Trois Pitons National Park), jaw-dropping mountainous landscapes and beautiful beaches that you’ll likely have all to yourself, you’ll honestly feel like you’ve been transported to another planet where all the worries of day-to-day life are a distant memory.

It’s tucked between the French-Caribbean islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe. However, Dominica spent over two centuries under British rule before independence was declared in 1978, meaning English is the main language spoken on the island.

🏡 Places to Stay in Dominica in June

  1. Secret Bay – Extremely beautiful villas on a clifftop overlooking the ocean, perfect for couples. Personal plunge pools, gourmet kitchens, and stunning sea views, mixing top-tier luxury with nature.
  2. Fort Young Hotel – Built in 1699, this is an adventure-ready waterfront hotel in Dominica’s capital, easy access to diving and hiking, oceanfront infinity pools, local cuisine, and beautiful views.
  3. Rosalie Bay Resort – Eco-friendly resort located at the convergence of the Rosalie River and the Atlantic Ocean, emphasises sustainability, wellness, and engagement with nature.

🎒 Things to Do in Dominica in June

  1. Go whale and dolphin watching.
  2. Visit the volcanic black sand beach and sulphur springs.
  3. Experience canyoneering in Dominica’s lush rainforests.
  4. Hike to Dominica’s Boiling Lake and the Valley of Desolation.
  5. Chase waterfalls in the rainforest (some of the best waterfalls in the Caribbean).
  6. Learn how to cook Dominican cuisine at a cooking class.

6. Barbados

Barbados is on top of plenty of people’s travel destination lists, and it’s made it to our best Caribbean islands to visit in June. Barbados beaches are known as being some of the best in the region, and there are plenty of things to do and a choice of awesome places to eat. As the most developed country in the eastern Caribbean, Barbados is easier to get to and more affordable than the surrounding islands.

Although Barbados is developed, don’t let it put you off. It’s retained most of its traditional Caribbean charm and Bajans are a welcoming bunch. Also, there isn’t an abundance of towering sky-scraper-like hotels and apartment blocks. Resorts tend not to be overbearing and you definitely won’t find any cityscape-like views. The great thing about Barbados is the huge choice of accommodation to suit almost any budget, from small private apartments to high-end villas and breathtaking resorts.

We loved Barbados and have spent around 2 months here in total. The island is pretty flat, so don’t expect lush rainforests and mountainous terrain. However, our top tip is to venture away from the touristy areas. Head to the rugged east coast (we loved Bathsheba) and north of the island during your trip. You’ll find hikes, lush gulleys, jaw-dropping cliffs and much more.

  6. Experience Rum tasting at the Mount Gay Rum Distillery.

7. Bonaire

Bonaire is one of the scuba diving capitals of the world and is famed in the Caribbean as being one of the best islands for diving. May and June are the best times to go diving in Bonaire, water temperatures are warm, visibility is at its best, the weather is consistent and you’re not sharing the water with crowds. So, for those reasons, we think it’s one of the best Caribbean islands to visit in June for scuba divers.

There isn’t much else to do on Bonaire, but if you want to get out on the water, scuba dive or snorkel, it’s the perfect base. However, if you do want to stay on land, there are great choices for accommodations – from villas, apartments and boutique hotels to larger resorts – and unique things to do, like visiting the pink salt flats and pyramids. If you want to experience a quieter island, Bonaire is a great choice among the best Caribbean islands to visit in June.

Also, another bonus about visiting Bonaire in June is that it’s part of the ABC islands in the Dutch Caribbean, meaning it sits outside the hurricane belt, so you’re unlikely to be hit by any large storms.

🏡 Places to Stay in Bonaire in June

  1. Bamboo Bonaire Boutique Resort – Intimate resort with private cottages that are decorated with Thai & Indonesian wooden furnishings, nestled within tropical gardens, lounge pool, hot tubs, on-site restaurant and champagne breakfast in bed.
  2. The Bellafonte – Luxury oceanfront hotel with amazing views, studios to penthouses, a private pier and a hot tub overlooking the Caribbean Sea, and proximity to prime snorkelling and scuba diving spots.
  3. Harbour Village Beach Club – Exclusive resort with private beach, luxurious rooms and suites amidst lush gardens, diving, spa, and dining by the sea.

🎒 Things to Do in Bonaire in June

  1. Admire the incredibly beautiful pink salt flats and pyramids.
  2. Go scuba diving at Bonaire’s iconic dive spots.
  3. Explore Bonaire’s white sand beaches.
  4. Sail around the island on a (private) catamaran cruise.
  5. Kayak in a clear bottom kayak around Bonaire’s mangroves.
  6. Spot flamingos at Kaminda Sorobon.
  7. Go deep sea fishing.

8. St Lucia

Famed for its vibrant rainforest, mountainous landscapes and being a hotspot for couples and honeymooners, St Lucia is undoubtedly one of the best Caribbean islands to visit in June. The type of traveller you are will dictate where to stay in St Lucia, but there is something for everyone on this little island. Immaculate and romantic resorts give you the perfect spot to chill for a couple of weeks. Waterfalls, hikes, cocoa plantations and beach-hopping give you adventure. Sailing, snorkelling, diving and a waterpark in the ocean give you a chance to get on and in the water.

Overall, we wish we’d have chosen to base ourselves in Soufriere for longer because most of the amazing St Lucia waterfalls and other things to do are in the southwest of the island.

After spending around a month on the island, we can’t wait to get back. It’s easy to see why St Lucia has gained a reputation as being a great Caribbean island for couples. However, we think it would be a spot for families too. We’d have loved our parents taking us here when we were younger!
