Flights
Finding the best flight deals can feel like looking for a needle in a haystack 😫. Here are the top resources we trust to make the process much easier:
- Skyscanner: Our favourite tool for booking flights. It’s great for comparing the cheapest price to fly across any given month, or if you’re flexible on where to go and just want to search “anywhere”.
- Google Flights: We love the price tracking and map view here; they’re a huge help for spotting good prices and exploring options.
- Expedia: Expedia is an excellent place to start your flight search. Also, many Expedia flights have a 24-hour free cancellation policy, so it’s perfect for booking something flexible if you need proof of onward travel.
Accommodation
Finding the right place to stay can make all the difference in your travel experience. Here are the platforms we use to book places to stay:
- Booking.com: Whether it’s a hotel or a budget guesthouse, we like Booking.com for the range you can find on there. Tip: Always search by map view so you can ensure you book somewhere in the best location.
- Expedia: We love to use Expedia for accommodation and flights, there’s often deals on here you don’t see anywhere else.
- VRBO: VRBO is an excellent platform for booking holiday rentals, we often find we discover better apartments on here than other platforms.
- Airbnb: Airbnb is a great start for booking accommodation, but we don’t use it that often as we hate to see the price increase because of all the added fees!
- TrustedHousesitters: This platform lets you book free accommodation in exchange for house and pet sitting – there are places worldwide you can apply to sit, so it’s ideal if you love animals and want to stay somewhere without the cost. Read our how to become a house sitter guide here.
Transportation
Navigating transport options in a new place can be tricky. These are the top tools we trust to get around smoothly, wherever we are:
- Discover Cars: Our favourite car rental comparison site that helps you find the best deals (and reviews) across various providers worldwide.
- Busbud: This platform allows you to search, compare, and book bus tickets across multiple countries, making it easier to plan your bus journeys.
- 12Go: How we book transportation in Asia, including trains, buses, ferries, and flights.
- Trainline: Our go-to for booking train tickets across Europe as you can see schedules, prices and booking options for various train operators.
- Omio: A great site to compare ferry schedules and prices, as well as trains and buses.
- RentalCover: We’ve use this to book insurance for rental cars as often the coverage surpasses what rental companies offer and is usually at a lower cost!
Activities & Tours
These are our go-to spots for booking things to do on our travels:
- Viator: This is the first place we look to find everything from big city tours to more quirky local experiences. They’ve got loads of options, so we always find something interesting.
- GetYourGuide: We like to compare prices here with Viator to find the most affordable, well-reviewed tours and excursions.
- TripAdvisor: You can book tours and experiences on here too, which a lot of people don’t know about.
- Expedia: Aside from flights and accommodations, Expedia also offers a wide range of activities and tours to complete your travel experience.
Travel Insurance
Staying protected while you’re on on holiday is SO important! These are the trusted providers we use to make sure we’re covered, wherever we are:
- Klook: Our top choice for travel insurance for any holiday. They cover a lot and make it super easy to add on coverage for things like adventure sports.
- SafetyWing: If you’re a digital nomad or planning to travel for a while, SafetyWing is the best rated travel insurance provider out there. They cover medical expenses, travel delays, lost luggage etc. and we love that you can start or stop it whenever (some travel insurance companies commit you to 12-24 months, but SafetyWing is a rolling monthly insurance).
Staying Connected
Our top picks for eSim and VPN while travelling:
- eSim: Airalo – If you want to stay connected without the crazy roaming charges, Airalo is a lifesaver as they do affordable eSIMs you can download straight to your phone. They have coverage in tons of countries, so you can get local data plans without swapping SIM cards.
- VPN: NordVPN – If you’re working or streaming (Netflix etc) while you travel, NordVPN is a must have. It lets you access your usual sites securely, no matter where you are and allows you to connect to servers in different countries. So, it’s a great way to catch up on your fave Netflix show or access important sites that might be blocked abroad.
